The desiccant dehumidifier is a huge piece of equipment designed to remove moisture from the air. It is one of the more recent air conditioning systems, particularly for people who have experienced a leak or a flood on their property. All that is required is a functional desiccant dehumidifier which eliminates the risk of further water damage and mould.

What are the Advantages of Desiccant Dehumidifiers?

Desiccant dehumidifiers offer several advantages over compressor dehumidifiers. Firstly, desiccant dehumidifiers can bring the humidity down to a much lower level than compressor dehumidifiers. They are also able to work in much colder temperatures.

That said, desiccant dehumidifiers are intricate machines, so there are different types. Before looking for a dehumidifier for sale, you must know the type you need to dehumidify because one type of desiccant dehumidifier will work better than another. Here are some of the different types of desiccant dehumidifiers

  • Rotary desiccant dehumidifiers
  • Commercial and industrial rotary desiccant dehumidifiers
  • Disposable desiccant dehumidifiers
  • Rechargeable desiccant dehumidifiers

How do Desiccant Dehumidifiers Work?

Desiccant dehumidifiers work by using a large desiccant wheel to adsorb moisture from the process air stream using a chemical mixture. Most desiccant dehumidifiers utilize a rotary wheel embedded with a desiccant mixture. As the wheel spins around, moist air is blown through one side of the wheel to remove moisture from the air.

So as the process air is dried, the moisture content of the wheel rises. A second air stream is heated and passed through the wheel to remove this moisture that accumulates on the constantly moving wheel.

The heated air steam then absorbs the moisture from the wheel and dries the wheel in the process. The heated air is called “reactivation air” since it reactivates the desiccant by removing moisture from the wheel. As a result, the wheel is reactivated and can continue to dry the process air. Depending on the desiccant dehumidifier type, the reactivation air is either dried out with a condenser coil or removed from the building. This desiccant dehumidification and reactivation process continues for as long as the desiccant dehumidifier is on.

Desiccant dehumidifiers are one of two main types of dehumidifiers. The other more common type is a condensing dehumidifier, often used for pools or damp basements. Desiccant dehumidifiers excel in dryer environments compared to condensing dehumidifiers and are essential for low dew point refrigeration systems for dehumidification.
